Working in digital marketing is always challenging yet rewarding. Here are some pros and cons you should know before becoming one.

Are you planning on becoming a digital marketer? That's great to hear!

Before you jump into the digital world, here are a couple of pros and cons we can give you to jumpstart your career. This article will also provide all the free tools and platforms you can use to prepare you for your digital journey.

Let’s start with the bright side of this industry.

Pros:

  • You can make decent money

  • It is a fascinating work

  • You can connect and work with people worldwide

  • You can work anytime and anywhere

  • This career never gets boring

  • Digital marketing has a wide range of things to learn

  • You never stop learning things

  • You can have as many clients as you can

  • You can learn all things by yourself

  • You can get almost all the needed resources for free

  • You can work from home forever

  • The industry never stops growing and innovating

  • The jobs opportunities are great

  • You can start your own business

  • You can measure your results through data

On the other hand, here are some of the cons I experienced in digital marketing.

Cons:

  • You will be sitting at your station all-day

  • Long exposure to computer

  • It takes time to get your first client and big pay if you are a beginner.

  • You need to undergo long courses to get certifications

  • You need to register and get verified to platforms to receive your pay

  • Fees can be delayed more often

  • Things can get stressful sometimes, especially with the tech stuff

  • Some niches are tough and can be problematic

  • Digital marketing is more challenging than tutorials, and how-to-do videos demonstrate.

  • Clients can change their minds about something so often (ex., One sec they want this, and the next sec., They dont want it anymore)

  • The client often thinks you know everything.

  • Some clients expect significant outcomes in a short period

  • The competition is too high

  • Updates are never-ending so does the changes

  • Don’t expect Christmas bonuses and benefits, especially from international clients.

As digital marketing for a long time now, here are tips to make things easier.

  1. Keep your resume updated and put a picture of you in it. (keep your resume clear and precise)

  2. Before applying, create your account and get verified with wise transfer, Payoneer, and zoom pay. (I don’t recommend Paypal because it is too expensive and has a lot of problems in terms of transactions)

  3. The best way to look for clients is through LinkedIn, onlinejobs.ph, Upwork and foundit.com.ph

  4. Don’t be ashamed to ask your client if you don’t understand something from the task.

  5. Join virtual groups for freelancers to get free tips and tools

  6. Don’t be ashamed to follow up about your pay

  7. Follow digital marketing experts and learn from them.

  8. Be open to improvements and errors. We are humans, after all.

  9. For video and graphic design, you can use canva, and pixlr they are free

  10. For a free grammar checker, you can use Grammarly.

  11. Utilize all the tools you can use before spending

Digital marketing is a big world with millions of opportunities and possibilities. Remember to be optimistic about your journey and not be discouraged by your errors; instead, use them to do better next time.
